7.2. Training delivery

Training helps employees shift their mindset, behaviours and acquire the skills required for new ways of working. 

For delivery of training to be effective the following should be considered:

  • Training audience has been identified and notified
  • Training delivery content is suitable and relevant for its audience
  • Training logistics have been confirmed and the environment is suitable for learning
  • Training facilitators are knowledgeable and equipped to deliver the training
  • Evaluation of training session is completed, analysed and reported on.

7.2.1. Training delivery – the process

1. Confirm training logistics, audience and training materials

  1. Use the administration checklist to confirm the co-ordination of training logistics, (for example ensuring training materials and hand-outs are prepared and ready)
  2. Confirm training location and time with training participants and trainers
  3. Arrive early on the day of training to ensure the following:
    • The training facility is set-up and ready for the training sessions
    • Training materials including attendance log, hand-outs, name tags etc. are available
    • Necessary signage is in place
    • Relevant audio-visual and computer equipment are logged into and working.

2. Execute training session

  1. Training delivery should follow the agenda and use the materials developed to ensure that training is delivered consistently
  2. During train-the-trainer sessions when preparing trainers, challenge them to incorporate an assortment of delivery methods to reinforce the training content being shared.

3. Evaluate training session

  1. Training evaluation should cover:
    • How applicable the training content is to job role
    • The quality of the training materials
    • The effectiveness of the training delivery
    • The suitability of the training environment.
  2. Administer the evaluation at the end of the training session
  3. Review and analyse the feedback received
  4. Report on the key findings and recommend action items if applicable
  5. Share feedback with the training team and co-ordinate updates to the training materials based on the evaluation results.
