The change readiness assessment is designed as an early analysis of stakeholder receptivity to change. It assists in identifying potential barriers that may cause resistance to a change initiative and enables the development of a plan to remove barriers and increase willingness to accept the change.
It also helps to:
Identify insights to drive the development of targeted change interventions
Adopt an integrated approach to the design of and transition to the future state
Address specific entity and people issues before specific phases of the future state are implemented
Measure and monitor performance and the implementation of further changes, if required.
4.2.1. Change readiness assessment – the process
1. Conduct change history review, confirm change readiness approach
Review the change impact, leadership capability and Training needs assessments created for your programme, project, or initiative in Step 3
Consult with your project team to discuss the findings to gain insights into what change management activities took place in the past
Insights from this activity will help to determine the readiness approach and design of the readiness survey.
2. Design and conduct change readiness survey
Design survey questions based on change readiness themes
Validate and test the survey questions within a small control group
Administer the approved survey tool across identified stakeholder group(s).
3. Analyse and communicate change readiness assessment results
Once the readiness survey is completed, summarise and analyse the findings
Meet with your project team to discuss the survey findings or results. Brainstorm recommendations to address the findings
Review the agreed approach to determine if there are any special requirements for communicating the assessment results – specifically who the results should be communicated to
Update and validate the survey results to include findings and recommendations
Communicate findings and recommendations with the appropriate stakeholder group.
